  Árbol siempre verde de 50 a 65 pies de altura y 4 pies de diámetro en el tronco. Tiene copa amplia arqueada, flores rosadas con estambres en forma de hilo en cabezuelas y vainas negruzcas achatadas. Es planta melífera. Esta bella especie se ha usado para reforestar y ornamentar carreteras y como combustible. Se ha naturalizado en las regiones costeras secas, húmedas y base de la Cordillera Central en Puerto Rico. Nativo de México está distribuido en las Antillas, trópicos americanos y del Viejo Mundo. Evergreen tree of 50 to 65 feet of height and four feet of diameter in the trunk. It has an ample bent canopy, pink flowers with stamens in thread form in small heads, and the blackish and flattened pods. It is a melliferous plant. This beautiful species has been used to reforest and ornament highways and like fuel. It has become naturalized in the dry and humid coastal regions and at the base of the Central Mountain range in Puerto Rico. Native of Mexico, it is distributed in the Antilles, the American Tropical and of the Old World.
