  Árbol siempre verde de 50 a 70 pies de alto y 18 pulgadas de diámetro en el tronco. Se caracteriza por tener copa densa redondeada, follaje verde oscuro, flores blancas parecidas a brochas y frutos en vainas con pulpa blanca comestible. Es planta melífera. Se ha usado como sombra para el café, combustible y para postes de cercas. En remedios caseros ha servido como antidiarreico, para sanar úlceras y empeines de la piel. Se encuentra en los bosques de la costa húmeda, caliza húmeda, base de las montañas y regiones altas de la Cordillera Central de Puerto Rico y la Isla de Vieques. Está distribuido en La Española, las Islas Vírgenes y parte del territorio Centro y Suramericano. Evergreen tree of 50 to 70 feet of height and 18 inches of diameter in the trunk. It is characterized to have a dense round canopy, dark green foliage, white flowers similar to brushes, and fruits in pods with edible white pulp. It is a melliferous plant. It has been used like shade for coffee, as fuel, and for posts of fences. In home remedies it has served to control diarrhea, heal ulcers and for conditions of the skin. It is in the forests of humid limestone coast, at the base of mountains, and in the high regions of the Central Mountain range of Puerto Rico and the Island of Vieques. It is distributed in the Virgin Islands, Hispaniola, and parts of the territory Center and South America.
