  Árbol de copa angosta que puede alcanzar 70 pies de alto y 3 pies de diámetro en el tronco. Posee hojas coriáceas dobladas hacia arriba con olor y sabor a especias al estrujar el follaje y flores blancas llamativas fragrantes. En la antigüedad la madera denominada laurel sabino era utilizada en la ebanistería fina. Esta especie endémica está distribuida en los bosques de las elevaciones más altas de la Cordillera Central especialmente en el centro y oeste de Puerto Rico. Tree of narrow canopy that can reach to seventy feet of height and three feet of diameter in the trunk. It has leathery leaves bent upwards with a spicy scent and flavor, when squeezed, and white attractive fragrant flowers. In the past the wood, denominated "laurel sabino", was used in fine furniture. This endemic species is distributed in the forests at the highest elevations of the Central Mountain range especially in center and the West of Puerto Rico.
