  Árbol que puede medir 30 pies de altura y un pie de diámetro en el tronco. Se distingue por tener flores muy grandes vistosas parecidas a las orquídeas y vainas largas planas que se tuercen al abrir. Este árbol es cultivado con fines de ornamentación y reforestación aunque puede localizarse en estado silvestre a lo largo de carreteras, malezas, riberas de ríos, costas, zona caliza y base de las montañas de Puerto Rico y la Isla de Vieques. Nativo de Asia está distribuido en las Antillas, Florida y norte de Sur América. Tree that can measure thirty feet of height and a foot of diameter in its trunk. It is distinguished for very large attractive flowers similar to long and flat orchids and pods that are twisted when opening. This tree is cultivated for ornate and reforestation although it can be located wild along highways, thickets, shores of rivers, coasts, in the calcareous zone, and at the base of mountains of Puerto Rico and of the Island of Vieques. Native of Asia, it is distributed in the Antilles, Florida and North of the South America.
