  Árbol siempre verde que puede alcanzar 45 pies de altura y 18 pulgadas de diámetro en el tronco. Se distingue por tener las ramas estratificadas horizontalmente, raíces tubulares en la base del tronco, hojas aglomeradas en las puntas de las ramas, flores amarillo verdoso cubiertas de vellos y frutos grandes sobre cúpulas. La madera ha sido utilizada para hacer muebles. Esta especie reside en las cumbres de las montañas de la Sierra de Luquillo, Cayey y Cordillera Central de Puerto Rico. Se ha distribuido también a Cuba. Evergreen tree that can reach to forty-five feet of height and eighteen inches of diameter in the trunk. It is characterized by the horizontal stratified branches, tubular roots at the base of the trunk, agglomerate of leaves at the ends of the branches, yellow greenish villous flowers, and large fruits in a cupola. The wood has been used to make furniture. This species is found in the summits of mountains of the Mountain range of Luquillo, Mountain range of Cayey, and the Central Mountain range of Puerto Rico. It is also distributed in Cuba.
