  Árbol siempre verde que puede alcanzar 40 pies de alto y un pie de diámetro en el tronco. Posee hojas coriáceas apiñadas en las ramas, flores rojo brillante vistosas de corola tubular y frutos en vainas. Esta especie es endémica y crece solamente en las cumbres de las montañas más altas de Puerto Rico. Evergreen tree that it can reach to forty feet of height and a foot of diameter in the trunk. It has clustered leathery leaves in the branches, attractive red shining flowers of tubular corollas, and fruits in pods. This species is endemic and only grows at summits of the highest mountains of Puerto Rico.
