  Árbol erecto siempre verde que alcanza 65 pies de alto y 18 pulgadas de diámetro en el tronco. Posee hojas verdes lustrosas que despiden olor a ajo al estrujarse, flores blancas fragantes en racimos y frutos en nuececillas. Es planta melífera. Produce una valiosa madera resistente al ataque de termitas que ha sido importante en la ebanistería y carpintería. Las semillas y hojas se han usado en remedios caseros. El Fideicomiso de Conservación y Departamento de Recursos Naturales y Ambientales propagan esta especie para reforestación y ornato. Crece naturalmente en bosques calizos húmedos y base de las montañas de Puerto Rico. Está distribuido en parte del territorio de las Antillas y América Tropical. Straight evergreen tree that reaches sixty-five feet of height and eighteen inches of diameter in the trunk. It has bright green leaves that dismiss a scent of garlic when squeezed, white fragrant flowers in mallets, and fruits in small nuts. It is a melliferous plant. It produces a valuable wood resistant to the attack of termites, which is very important in furniture and carpentry. The seeds and the leaves have been used in home remedies. Puerto Rico's Conservation Trust and the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources propagate this species for reforestation and ornate. It grows naturally in the humid limestone forests and at the base of mountains of Puerto Rico. It is distributed in some areas of the territory of the Antilles and Tropical America.
