  Cacto ramificado que puede crecer hasta 20 pies de alto y un pie de diámetro en el tronco. Posee ramas gruesas columnares con costillas, ranuras y espinas, flores carnosas verdosas blancuzcas o púrpuras y bayas rojas redondeadas. La baya contiene una pulpa roja jugosa algo dulce comestible. Crece en terrenos áridos del sur y suroeste de Puerto Rico y las Islas de Mona, Desecheo, Icacos, Culebra y Vieques. Está distribuido en las Antillas Menores. Grafted cactus that can grow to a foot of diameter in the trunk and to twenty feet of height. It has heavy columnar branches with ribs, grooves, and thorns; fleshy greenish whitish or clear purple flowers; and red berries. The berry contains a red pulp, juicy sometimes sweet, and edible. It grows in barren lands of the South and Southwest of Puerto Rico and the Islands of Mona, Desecheo, Icacos, Culebra and Vieques. It is also distributed in the Lesser Antilles.
