  Árbol siempre verde que puede alanzar hasta 45 pies de alto y 5 pulgadas de diámetro en el tronco. Posee hojas verde amarillento, flores del mismo color y frutos redondeados de pulpa blancuzca mucilaginosa comestible. En otros países se cultiva para el consumo de sus frutos. Es una especie rara encontrada en los bosques calizos húmedos y la Cordillera Central en Puerto Rico. Está distribuido en gran parte del territorio antillano y suramericano. Evergreen tree that can grow to 45 feet in height and five inches in diameter in the trunk. It has greenish yellow leaves, flowers in the same colors, and round fruits with white viscous edible pulp. In other countries, its fruits are consumed. In Puerto Rico, it can be found in the humid calcareous forests and the Central Mountains. It is distributed in most of the Antilles and South America.
