This ENRICH funded project encompasses the botanical specimens housed at New York Botanical Garden's William and Lynda Steere Herbarium collected from Australia.

The records from this collection represent the depth of biocultural, ecological and economic knowledge from Australia that has been documented, dispersed and stored internationally. Meaning, beyond the reach and consent of First Nations communities.

This metadata enrichment project involves the research, mapping and consolidation of NYBG records - pertaining to Australian specimens - and their associated data including (but not limited to): flowering plants, fungi, mosses, algae and lichens.

This project is in alignment with Maim Nayri Wingara and the Australian Indigenous Governance Institute's Communique on Indigenous Data Sovereignty and Indigenous Data Governance.

The project is led by ENRICH Research Fellow Rose Barrowcliffe (Department of Critical Indigenous Studies, Macquarie University, AUS) and Research Assistant Dakota Feirer (Graduate, New York University, USA) in collaboration with the New York Botanical Garden. The geolocation data analysis is conducted by Alex Ip (AARNet) with contributions from Ben Foley (LDaCA/UQ).
