  Árbol siempre verde que alcanza 40 pies de altura y 18 pulgadas de diámetro en el tronco. Posee copa abierta redondeada, flores blancas pequeñas y frutos rojizos carnosos redondos. Produce látex blanco. La madera se usa para postes. De la raíz que tiene propiedades terapéuticas se prepara pastillas, tabletas y ampollas que se utilizan como tranquilizantes nerviosos en enfermedades mentales y condiciones de tensión. Crece en bosques del litoral calizo y montes en elevaciones bajas y medias de Puerto Rico y las Islas de Mona y Vieques. Está distribuido en las Bahamas e Indias Occidentales. Evergreen tree that reaches 40 feet of height and 18 inches of diameter in the trunk. It has an open round canopy, white small flowers, and round fleshy reddish fruits. It produces white latex. The wood is used for posts. From the root are made , that has therapeutic properties, tablets, pills, and ampoules that are used like nervous tranquilizers for mental diseases and stress conditions. It grows in forests of the calcareous coast and in mounts at low and medium elevations of Puerto Rico and the Islands of Mona and Vieques. It is distributed in the Bahamas and the West Indies.
