  Cactus globular de costilla con surcos profundos, espinas largas abundantes y raíces completamente superficiales. La inflorescencia surge del ápice del globo formando un moño lanudo de flores rosadas pequeñas y frutas muy carnosas del mismo color. Es la especie más carnosa de todos los cactus. Habita en lugares áridos de la costa, las Islas de Mona, Desecheo y Vieques. Está distribuido en las Antillas Mayores e Islas Virgins. Globular cactus with deep ribs and furrows with abundant long thorns and completely superficial roots. Its inflorescence arises from the apex of the globe and is a fleecy bun of pink small flowers, and very fleshy fruits of the same color. It is the fleshiest species of all the cacti. It lives in barren places of the coast, the Islands of Mona, Desecheo, and Vieques. It is distributed in the Larger Antilles and the Islands Virgins.
