Miller) var. valens Irwin & Barneby, var. nov., a var. pentagonia florum multo majorum sepalo maximo 13-15 (nec 7-9) mm usque longo, petalo longissimo 21-30 (nec 11-15) mm longo, anther- isque staminum abaxialium trium longius rostratis, rostro tubuloso 2-poroso 4-5 (nec 1-2) mm longo absimilis.—BRAZIL. Goias: roadside capoeira, 600 m, Sa. Sao Roque between Posse and Alvorada, 17.IV. 1966 (fl, fr), Irwin, Grear, Souza & Reis dos Santos 14940.— Holotypus, R; isotypi, F, K, LE, P, NY, UB, US.

Disturbed campo cerrado and caatinga forest, in Goias and Bahia on limestone, ±500-800 m, apparently local along and near the divide between the upper Rio Tocantins to the w. and the left affluents of Rios Parnaiba and S. Francisco to the e. in lat. 7°-15°30'S, s. Maranhao, e.-centr. Goias and w. Bahia.—Fl. II-V.
