Description
Mata do Crasto, Sergipe
The Mata do Crasto (11°22´S, 37°25’W), in the município of Santa Luzia do Itanhy, is one of the most significant and well-preserved forest fragments in Sergipe and was recognized by IBAMA as a private reserve in 1989. The principal threats to the area are increased beachside development leading to more paved roads around the reserve. This leads to more people circulating in the reserve, more hunting, and more cutting of firewood.
Coordinating University: The Federal University of Sergipe, led by Dr. Ana Paula Prata. The UFSE team comprises biology undergraduate students and a woodsman.
