  Árbol de 45 pies de alto con hojas lustrosas en el haz y sedosas en el envés, flores pequeñas amarillentas y frutos grandes globosos morados o verde claro con semillas negras. Las hojas tienen propiedades hipoglucémicas, la corteza y los frutos son astringentes. La corteza se ha empleado como febrífugo. Este árbol se cultiva por su uso como ornamental y frutal. Nativo de las Antillas ha sido distribuido por cultivo en los trópicos y subtrópicos del Mundo. Tree of 45 feet of height, leaves that are shiny on the sheaf and silky on the reverse, small yellowish flowers, and large purple or light green globular fruits, with black seeds.
