  Planta herbácea de 6 pies de altura con inflorescencia en espigas. Las hojas y raíces se han usado en la medicina casera como diurético y analgésico en inflamaciones de tumores y tejidos adoloridos, para disolver cálculos renales y tonificar el estómago. El extracto de las hojas se usa contra el herpes y las erupciones de la piel. Se puede encontrar en bosques, a lo largo de quebradas y ríos en Puerto Rico. Está distribuida en las Antillas y América Tropical. Herbaceous plant of 6 feet of height with inflorescence in spikes. The leaves and the roots have been used in home remedies like a diuretic, to dissolve kidney stones, to heal the stomach, and like an analgesic in tumor swellings and hurt tissues. The extract of the leaves is used against herpes and skin eruptions. It can be observed in the forests and along brooks and rivers in Puerto Rico. It is distributed in the Antilles and Tropical America.
