  Bejuco leñoso trepador de ramas colgantes que pude extenderse hasta 90 pies. Puede crecer también en forma arbustiva. Tiene hojas coriáceas de margen ondulado, flores blancas en racimos y frutos de color púrpura o negro. La fibra es aprovechada por los artesanos para hacer canastas. Crece silvestre en bosques, pastizales y a orillas de carreteras en elevaciones medias y bajas de Puerto Rico. Está distribuido en las Antillas y América Tropical. Climbing ligneous reed of hanging branches that could extend to 90 feet. It can also grow in shrub form. It has leathery leaves of waved margin, white flowers in racemes, and fruits of purple or black color. The fiber is used by the artisans to weave baskets. It grows wild in the forests, thickets, and along borders of highways at medium and low elevations of Puerto Rico. It is distributed in the Antilles and Tropical America.
