  Arbusto de 9 pies de alto cubierto por un polvo ceniciento que despide un olor desagradable. Posee hojas con el borde dentado y flores en panojas. Varios órganos de la planta producen alcaloides con propiedades analgésicas e hipnóticas. El látex cáustico se ha empleado en el tratamiento de úlceras, erupciones de la piel y para remover verrugas. Entre los síntomas de toxicidad está la depresión. Se encuentra en terrenos cultivados, colinas y bosques en elevaciones medias y bajas de Puerto Rico. Está distribuido en las Antillas y desde México a Perú. Shrub of 9 feet of height covered by an ashy dust that dismisses a disagreeable scent. It has leaves with dented edges and flowers in a panicle. Several organs of the plant produce alkaloids with analgesic and hypnotic properties. Its caustic latex is used in the treatment of ulcers, skin rashes, and warts. Among its toxicity symptoms is depression. It is in cultivated lands, hills, and forests at medium and low elevations of Puerto Rico. It is distributed in the Antilles and from Mexico to Peru.
