  Árbol siempre verde de 10 a 20 pies de alto y 2 a 4 pulgadas de diámetro en el tronco. Se distingue por las ramitas color castaño rojizo cuando nuevas, hojas carnosas apiñadas en los extremos de las ramas, flores blancas pequeñas fragantes en racimos y frutos blancos carnosos elípticos. La corteza se ha usado para hacer sogas. Es una especie endémica de los bosques altos de las montañas de la Sierra de Luquillo y Cordillera Central en Puerto Rico. Evergreen tree of 10 to 20 feet of height and 2 to 4 inches of diameter in the trunk. It is distinguished by the small brown reddish branches when new, clustered fleshy leaves at the ends of the branches, small fragrant white flowers in elliptical mallets, and fleshy white fruits. The crust has been used to make ropes. It is an endemic species at the high forests of mountains in the Mountain range of Luquillo and the Central Mountain range in Puerto Rico.
