  Árbol de 10 a 20 pies de alto y 3 pulgadas de diámetro en el tronco. Se distingue por las espinas rectas amarillas en las ramitas y vena central del envés de las hojas, flores blancas en pedúnculos esbeltos con lóbulos en forma de estrella y bayas redondas lustrosas negras. Es un árbol endémico de los bosques altos de la Sierra de Cayey en Puerto Rico. Es una especie en peligro de extinción. Tree of 10 to 20 feet of height and 3 inches of diameter in the trunk. It is distinguished by yellow straight thorns in small branches and in the central vein of the reverse side of the leaves, white flowers in svelte peduncles, star shaped lobes, and black shinny round berries. It is an endemic tree at the high forests of the Mountain range of Cayey in Puerto Rico. It is an endangered species.
