  Árbol siempre verde de 10 a 20 pies de alto y 6 pulgadas de diámetro en el tronco. Tiene numerosas hojas apiñadas, flores tubulares amarillas manchadas de púrpura y puntos glandulares en todos sus órganos. Esta planta se ha cultivado como ornamental, cerca viva y rompe viento. Es la única represente en el Nuevo Mundo de una familia del Viejo Mundo encontrándose en la zona seca del sur y suroeste de Puerto Rico y la Isla de Vieques. Está distribuido en las Antillas, Bahamas y norte de Suramérica. Evergreen tree of 10 to 20 feet of height and 6 inches of diameter in the trunk. It has numerous clustered leaves, yellow purple stained tubular flowers, and glandular points in all its organs. This plant has been cultivated like an ornamental, a hedge, and windbreaker. It is the only one representation in the New World of an Old World family. It can be found in the dry zones of the South and Southwest of Puerto Rico and Island of Vieques. It is distributed in the Antilles, the Bahamas, and the North of South America.
