  Planta arbustiva de tallo leñoso, hojas opuestas con venas prominentes, flores blancas en espigas largas densas axilares y terminales y frutas lila en bayas carnosas. Crece en bosques, montes y zonas húmedas ascendiendo a elevaciones altas en Puerto Rico. Está distribuida en las Antillas, La Española y norte de América del Sur. Bushy plant of ligneous stem, opposing leaves with prominent veins, white flowers in axial terminal dense long spikes, and lilac fruits in fleshy berries. It grows in forests, hills, and humid zones ascending to high elevations in Puerto Rico. It is distributed in the Antilles, Hispaniola, and the North of South America.
