  Árbol siempre verde de 30 pies de alto y 4 pulgadas de diámetro en el tronco. Se identifica por hojas de pecíolos muy cortos con el ápice puntiagudo, flores blancas pequeñas fragrantes y bayas negruzcas. La madera ha sido útil para postes. Esta especie abunda en los bosques y claros de las zonas húmedas de la base de las montañas en Puerto Rico. Está distribuida en las Antillas Mayores, Menores y desde Colombia hasta Perú, Bolivia y Brasil. Evergreen tree of 30 feet of height and 4 inches of diameter in the trunk. It is identified for leaves of very short stems and pointed apex, flowers that are white small fragrant, and the blackish berries. The wood has been useful for posts. This species abounds in forests and in the clears of the humid zones at the base of mountains in Puerto Rico. It is distributed in the Greater and Lesser Antilles and from Colombia to Peru, Bolivia, and Brazil.
