  Longitudinal section of a flower of Lecythis mesophylla based on Reinaldo Aguilar 13712 from the Osa Peninsula, Puntarenas, Costa Rica. The middle right bud has been cut along the main axis of the flower. Note that the vestigial anthers are swept into the flower.
