  Medial longitudinal section of a flower of Eschweilera sp. based on Prance 27987 from the Chocó, Colombia. The flowers of this species are usually pink to red but we have occasionally seen white flowered individuals in the type locality in Ecuador and on the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica.
