  Sheath and spathe of Commelina communis.based on Mori & Rothman 27824 from the Westchester Wilderness Walk/Zofnass Family Preserve, Westchester Co., New York. The sheath is derived from the petiole and is and wrapped around the stem. The spathe is the upper bract in which the flowers develop.
