    Pubescence of a hypanthium of Couratari macrosperma showing the stellate trichomes based on Kuhlmann 133 from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Upper left: hypanthium. Upper right: close-up of preceeding. Note that the tufts are densely arranged giving the hypanthial surface a smooth appearance. Lower left: tufts without short trichomes at the base. The tufts at the upper right and at the middle probably are not a single tuft. Overall the trichomes are long (71 µm to 376 µm). Lower right: SEM of a tuft of trichomes. Note that the tuft lacks short basal trichomes.
