Description
Family Description - Fls regular, hypogynous, perfect or unisexual; cal 4-lobed and valvate, or ± reduced or even wanting; cor sympetalous and 4-lobed, or the pet small and distinct or even wanting; stamens 2 (–4), borne on the cor-tube when the cor is sympetalous, aligned with the sinuses; ovary superior, bilocular, with terminal style and 2-lobed stigma, or the stigma sessile; ovules mostly 2 per locule, sometimes 1–4, seldom (as in Forsythia) ± numerous, the placentation axile; seeds with straight, spatulate, dicotyledonous embryo embedded in the oily endosperm, or without endosperm; woody plants with opposite, exstipulate lvs. 30/600.
