Description
Description - Plant flowering 1-2 m high. Leaves 30-60 cm long; sheaths elliptic, 15 cm long, brown, sparsely punctulate-lepidote; blades ligulate, acute, 4-6 cm wide, flat, coriaceous, glabrous above, apex often red. Scape erect, to 3 cm thick; scape-bracts imbricate, the lower foliaceous, the upper lanceolate, acute. Inflorescence laxly pyramidal, bipinnate, glabrous; primary bracts like the upper scape-bracts, slightly exceeding the short bracteate sterile bases of the branches; spikes spreading to decurved, lanceolate or linear-lanceolate, acute, complanate, 8-13 cm long, 2 cm wide, 8-12-flowered. Floral bracts densely imbricate, ovate, acute, 20-25 mm long, exceeding the sepals, carinate, even, sublustrous. Sepals broadly elliptic, obtuse, to 20 mm long, coriaceous, even, unequally connate, the posterior carinate; petal-blades 5 mm long, ligulate, acute, violet-blue; stamens included.
