Discussion
This species was known from a single rather poor type specimen from Antioquia, Colombia. It is a high altitude endemic still only known from the type locality in the vicinity of Rionegro (not the Río Negro as erroneously stated in Prance, 1972!). Espinal T. (1981) wrote a commentary on the rarity of this species and pointed out that residents of Comfama know this as "the rare tree." See Figure 76.
