Description
Description - Plant flowering to 7 dm high, stout. Leaves 3“4 dm long, densely pale-lepidote beneath, glabrous above; sheaths broad, suborbicular, wholly or only the upper part dark castaneous; blades narrowly triangular, attenuate, 15-20 mm wide, yellow-green, laxly serrate with curved spines 2-3 mm long. Scape stout, soon glabrous; scape-bracts large, broadly ovate, acuminate, much exceeding the internodes, densely pale-lepidote, entire or minutely denticulate. Inflorescence simple, terete, subdense, many-flowered, 2-3 dm long. Floral bracts broadly ovate, acuminate, all exceeding the sepals and the lowest exceeding the petals; flowers subspreading, on stout pedicels 5 mm long, soon glabrous. Sepals ovate, acute, strongly alate-carinate, 16 mm long, frequently denticulate; petals 15-20 mm long, much exceeding the stamens, yellow, the blades broad; filaments short-connate above the common tube with the petals, anthers sublinear, acuminate; styles very short.
