Description
Description - Tree. Leafy twigs 4-8 mm thick, greyish, whitish appressed-pubescent; periderm more or less wrinkled. Leaves lanceolate, 17-32 cm long, 5-9 cm broad, coriaceous to subcoriaceous, acuminate, acute at the base, glabrous above, sparsely pubescent on the costa and secondary veins beneath; the costa and the proximal parts of the secondary veins prominent, otherwise the venation nearly plane above, veins prominent beneath, secondary veins 18-19 pairs, straight, joined by a rather distinct submarginal vein; petioles 6-10 mm long; stipules 10-15? mm long, appressed-pubescent. Infructescence ca 6 cm in diameter, sessile; involucre with ca 25 deltoid to suborbiculate to ovate to subovate, up to 2 cm long, obtuse, appressed-puberulous bracts in 5-6 series; flowers 22; perianth 5-7 mm high, 8-io-lobed to 8-10-fid, puberulous, perianth segments rather plane and obtuse; style ca 4 mm long, stigmas filiform, to vittiform 12-13 mm long; pseudobracts also numerous among the flowers, lanceolate, thick, 3-7 mm long, involute, obtuse, puberulous; seed 10 × 12 mm. Mature infructescences in February.

Discussion
This species resembles N. caloneura in its vegetative parts, but differs markedly in its infructescences.
