Family Description - Fls regular, perfect or sometimes unisexual, hypogynous, mostly 4-merous, sometimes with an epicalyx; sep valvate, usually distinct; pet distinct, usually conspicuous; stamens (10–) ± numerous, distinct or the filaments sometimes basally connate into 5 or 10 groups, often some of them staminodial; anthers bilocular; ovules (1)2–several in each of the 2–several locules of the ovary, the placentation generally axile; style 1, with a capitate or lobed stigma; fr capsular or indehiscent; trees or shrubs, rarely herbs, often stellate-hairy, with alternate, simple, stipulate, usually palmately or pinnipalmately veined lvs, the fls in various sort of cymose infls. 50/450, mainly warm reg.
