Discussion
This species differs from H. tomentosa in the very dense indument of the twigs and leaves, the long-pedunculate, many-flowered pistillate inflorescences, and the narrow anthers. The costae are completely covered with hairs beneath, which is rarely the case in H. tomentosa. Complemental staminate inflorescences are common and the leaves are often denticulate towards the apex. H. pedunculata is closely related to H. turbinata.
