    Stapf, the lemon grass, is occasionally cultivated in tropical America. It is a robust aromatic perennial with a large compound inflorescence of small awnless or obscurely awned racemes. The essential oil is used in perfumery. A native of Asia. American specimens are all sterile. Santa Ana, Peru, Cook & Gilbert 1529 (called " yerba Luisa").
