    Description - Inflorescence a dense spikelike (rarely loose) panicle, the spikelets solitary or in small clusters subtended by 1 to several slender scabrous bristles (sterile branchlets), these persistent after the fall of the spikelets; spikelets as in Panicum, turgid, the fruit usually transversely rugose.
