    Description - A tufted suberect perennial 0.5 to 1 meter tall, with compressed simple culms, linear blades 5 to 10 mm. wide, sometimes sparsely pilose, and few to several arcuate-spreading racemes 4 to 8 cm. long, the spikelets in pairs, drab-colored, drying brown, oval ; fruit dark brown, shining.
