  Description - Spikelets narrow ; floret shorter than the membranaceous glumes, articulate obliquely above them, leaving a sharp-pointed callus at the base of the fruit; lemma indurate, terete, convolute, terminating in a prominent twisted awn with a definite line of demarcation between the body of the lemma and the awn.
