    Description - Viewed from a horticultural standpoint, this species is very similar to the hualicón (M. ecuadorensis Hörold) of Tungurahua Province. Its leaves are oblong-lanceolate to ovate, acute, and 5 to 12.5 cm. in length. The rose-pink, tubular, waxy flowers are borne in dense axillary clusters, and are followed by round, dark purple fruits, a centimeter in diameter, containing an abundance of slightly acidulous juice of pleasant flavor.
