    Description - The tree is erect, stately, up to 18 meters in height, with compound leaves 20 to 30 cm long, composed of 11 to 23 oval to oblong, remotely serrate, acuminate leaflets about 7.5 cm. in length. The small whitish flowers are produced in loose panicles 20 to 30 cm. long. The fruit is oval to obovoid, 5 to 7.5 cm. long, orange-yellow, with a thin but tough skin, yellow, juicy flesh, and a large oval seed covered with stiff spines or bristles. The flavor of the fruit suggests that of the apple, but is sometimes unpleasantly resinous or pungent.
