    Description - Robust perennial, in large clumps; numerous leaves mostly basal; flowering culms erect, 4 to 6 feet tall. Panicles are persistent on the plant after seed has been cast.

    Uses - Local inhabitants gather these with a portion of the long culm attached and bind them into small brooms, which are used extensively.
