Discussion
This species has been recorded from the Himalayas and Ceylon at high altitudes under the name of G. ovalis (Hedw.) Lindb., but according to the studies by Dr. Sayre (Bryologist 55:258, 1952), Hornschuch's name will take precedence. Here the setae are distinctly curved when dry but strictly erect when moist.
