Description
Description - Terrestrial herbs, with fibrous roots, and the entire leaves in a basal rosette. Flowers solitary at the summits of the naked scapes. Calyx 5-lobed, more or less 2-lipped. Corolla more or less 2-lipped, the spreading limb sometimes almost equally 5-lobed. Capsule 2-valved. [Latin, pinguis, fat, the leaves of some species being greasy to the touch.] About 30 species, of wide distribution. Type species: Pinguicula vulgaris L.
