Description
Description - Shrubs, vines or perennial herbs, with opposite entire leaves, and flowers in terminal or axillary cymes or panicles. Calyx 5-toothed or 5-lobed. Corolla salverform or funnelform, the tube mostly longer than the 5-lobed limb. Stamens 4, borne on the corolla-tube, exserted, somewhat unequal. Stigma 2- lobed; ovary 4-celled. Fruit a drupe, enclosing 4, 1-seeded nutlets. [Greek, tree of fortune.] Probably 100 or more species, mostly natives of tropical regions. Type species: Clerodendrum infortunatum L.
