Description
Species Description - Rootstocks large, fleshy, a well-known vegetable. Stems glabrous or nearly so, trailing, 1 m. long or longer. Leaves various, ovate to suborbicular, entire, dentate or lobed, acuminate at the apex, cordate at the base, 5-15 cm. long; peduncles as long as the petioles or shorter, few-flowered; sepals oblong, acute, cuspidate, somewhat unequal, 7-10 mm. long; corolla pale purple or nearly white, about 5 cm. long; ovary and capsule 2-celled; seeds glabrous.

Thickets and cultivated soils, spontaneous after cultivation, Abaco, Andros, New Providence and Eleuthera : spontaneous after cultivation, Florida to Arkansas and Texas ; West Indies ; continental tropical America, and Old World tropics. Native habitat unknown. Catesby, 2 : pi. 60. Sweet Potato.
