Description
Species Description - A tree, up to 6 m. high, with a trunk sometimes 2.5 dm. in diameter, the nearly smooth bark light gray, the young twigs finely pubescent, somewhat angled, densely leafy. Leaves oblong-obovate to spatulate, 3-7 cm. long, obtuse or retuse and apiculate at the apex, narrowed at the base, glabrous, shining above, dull beneath, the petioles short; racemes 6 cm. long or less; pedicels stout, about 1 cm. long; sepals ovate-orbicular, obtuse; flowers very fragrant; corolla salverform, about 1 cm. broad, its lobes longer than the tube; stamens shorter than the staminodia; berry subglobose, orange-red, 8-10 mm. in diameter, hard.
