    Description - A halophytic tree or shrub, with opposite entire leaves, the petioles 2-glandular, and small greenish flowers in clustered spikes. Flowers polygamous or perfect. Calyx-tube terete, 5-lobed. Petals 5, minute. Stamens 10, short, the filaments subulate, the anthers cordate. Ovary with a scalloped epigynous disk; style short, glabrous; stigma somewhat 2-lobed; ovules 2 in each cavity. Drupes coriaceous, ribbed or angled. Seed solitary, germinating within the drupe. [Latin, from the fancied resemblance of the drupe to a flask.] A monotypic genus.
