Description
Species Description - A shrub or flat-topped tree, 4-8 m. high, with spreading branches, the trunk 1.5-2 dm. in diameter, the twigs divaricate, spiny. Leaves fascicled, subsessile, oblanceolate to spatulate, 1-2.5 cm. long, 4-6 mm. wide, firm in texture, glabrous, entire, obtuse or retuse at the apex, narrowed at the base: spines slender, 3-7 mm. long, mostly in 3 's at the ends of the twigs; flowers few, greenish, in axillary short peduncled spikes; calyx campanulate, about 3 mm. long, subtruncate, villous within; stamens 8 or 9, about 3 mm. long; drupe ovoid, 3-4 mm. long, the calyx rather early deciduous.
