    Description - Shrubs or trees. Leaves coriaceous, glabrous; stipules deciduous; flowers axillary, fasciculate, dioecious. Calyx 4-6-partite, its lobes imbricated. Petals none. Stamens 4-6(8-2), distinct; anthers ovoid, introrse. Ovary 2-1-celled its cells 2-ovuled. Fruit drupaceous, usually monospermous by abortion. [Greek, a drupe.] About 10 species, of Florida, the West Indies and Brazil. Type species: Drypetes glauca Vahl.
