Description
Description - Terrestrial orchids, with clustered roots, erect, scape-like stems, broad, tufted, basal leaves convolute in the bud, and small flowers in a terminal spike. Sepals broad, connate at the base. Petals narrow, thin, mostly shorter than the sepals. Lip broad, concave, 2-auricled at the base of the blade, erect. Column short; rostellum retuse, as long as the anther or longer. Pollinia powdery. Capsule small, oblong or ovoid. [Commemorates John D. Prescott, English botanist, died 1837.] About 30 species, of tropical and subtropical America. Type species: Prescottia plantaginifolia Lindl.
